What is a focus ring used for?
Focus rings are used to drive a camera lens’s focus mechanism using a belt-driven electronic autofocuser (such as a ZWO EAF or Gemini EAF). The ring provides a rigid, high-grip surface for the belt, which on its own cannot reliably grip or rotate the lens’s own focus ring.
